Noisy Doors

Noisy Doors

We can fix it!

Most people think a noisy garage door is just annoying, but sometimes it’s the sign of a much larger problem. Doors make noise when parts grind, squeak, or get rattled around repeatedly. These kinds of noises indicate that the door is in poor health, possibly lacking lubrication, or worse: the victim of mechanical failure. Left untreated, the door can completely fail, costing you lots of time and money.

Luckily, OC Garage Door Guys LLC is here to help. We are professionals who specialize in diagnosing and fixing noisy garage doors quickly and efficiently and we promise to deliver lasting results, whether it’s a simple tune-up or repairing deeper issues like mechanical problems. Our skilled technicians will restore your door’s smooth functionality and ensure that it operates reliably.

Our Services in Three Easy Steps

Step one:

Noise Diagnosis and Inspection

The type of noise a door makes tells us exactly what kind of problems are at hand. For example, loose bolts and failing openers make unique sounds that we can quickly identify. Bent tracks also make a unique sound that tells us exactly where to look. Sometimes the culprit is misalignment and a bad installation. In these cases, repairs are usually always needed, and they can range from minor to significant.

Step Two:

Lubrication and Tune-Up

Lubrication is a necessary step for testing the garage door and making sure it runs quietly and smoothly. Once we’ve identified the problem, we make sure to lubricate the area in order to test and tune-up anything that needs refinement. If the hardware is completely worn out, say, because a roller is no longer smooth, lubrication won’t be enough and we will likely have to replace the part.

Step Three:

Replacement & Installation

Replacement is only recommended when a piece of hardware is truly at its limit. Replacement comes in different forms and is different for all components. Here’s a list of some common hardware failures we encounter all the time.

Rollers

Worn rollers make an unpleasant sound due to their damaged surface rubbing up against the rail. Rollers need to be smooth-gliding and ultra-quiet, so it is best-practices to replace old rollers with nylon rollers, which are damage resistant and long-lasting.

Hinge and Spring Maintenance

Hinges and springs will often cause clanking or popping sounds when worn-out or     misaligned. We’ll first try to adjust the parts, but if that fails we will replace them.

Track Realignment & Fastener Tightening

Track realignment and fastener tightening involve checking the door’s tracks for any bending, warping, or shifting that may have occurred over time or through frequent use. A misaligned track can lead to loud scraping noises and improper door movement. We carefully loosen and reposition the tracks back into their proper place, making sure they are level and aligned on both sides. Next, we go through and tighten every fastener, bolt, and          screw that might be causing rattling or instability. This process not only reduces noise, but also helps extend the life of the door system by ensuring it moves smoothly and securely.

Opener Noise Solutions

If we hear motor humming or chain grinding we’ll inspect the opener and do our best to       adjust the tension. While this works almost all the time, there are cases where the opener     itself is no longer fixable and a replacement will be recommended.
