City Seeks Input on City Charter Section 612

The City is seeking to inform the community about Section 612 (formerly Measure C in 1990) of the City's Charter and solicit feedback in an effort to evaluate if the community desires refinements to the language for a future ballot measure. Section 612 was a voter initiative that was approved by voters during the November 1990 General Election and was incorporated into the Charter thereafter. The next Community Open House will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at the Central Library between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

City Charter Section 612 outlines the policy in which development of amenities and facilities within parks and beaches must be approved by voters prior to breaking ground.  Examples of such amenities and facilities include, but are not limited to, beach & park restrooms, community centers and concessions.

Edinger Avenue Sewer Construction Begins

Construction work has begun on Edinger Avenue to replace a sewer pipeline. This project is essential due to a sag in the current sewer line, which is causing grease buildup and consequently reducing capacity. To rectify this issue, a $5 million investment will be made to replace the existing 8 and 10-inch sewers with 8 to 15-inch ones, eliminating the sag and restoring the system to its full capacity.

Commuters should expect traffic delays due to construction occurring both during the day and overnight, with the road reduced to a single lane. Specifically, work in front of The Residences at Bella Terra, from the railroad east of Gothard Street to Sher Lane, will occur during daytime hours. Conversely, the segment from Sher Lane to the east of Beach Boulevard will undergo construction in the evening. The project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2024.
